Frequently Asked Questions Why does PSC offer two different systems that do essentially the same thing? The Standard Lightband was developed before the motorized version. The Motorized Lightband represents improvements in functionality and testability over the Standard Lightband. Can our company see the Lighband in operation? Yes, PSC can set up an in house demonstration with a fully operational Lightband at your request. We can also send you a Lightband, with complete user manual, that you can operate on your own. How does the Lightband react to shear stresses? Is it possible for the upper ring to slip while stowed? The upper ring of the Lighband has 3 shear pins at every leaf section. These shear pins mate with 3 collinear shear grooves in the leaves themselves. Consequently, it is not possible for the upper ring to slip. Does the lightband generate smoke? The Standard Lightband generates a small amount of vapor during the de-tensioning process. The motorized Lightband generates no vapor. Will the retaining line used in the Standard Lightband creep? Yes, however the creep is compensated by the design. The Standard Lightband can be set and left unattended for a period of up to 3 months before the tension needs to be checked/adjusted. Can a custom diameter Lighband be made? Yes, PSC engineers can furnish any Lighband diameter between 10 and 200 inches. Please refer to our technical brochure for ordering information.
